Welcome to our Hidden Gem Series where we highlight businesses throughout the county that you may or may not have heard of. Why are we doing this? Well, it’s simple. We love connecting residents and visitors to our incredible county and we thought, what better way to spread the word than to create a series for all to enjoy. Check back every other week to learn more. We’re excited to share Chesterfield’s Hidden Gems with you! First up, Bangers & Dinks, an indoor pickleball facility.
Bangers & Dinks is an indoor pickleball facility in Chesterfield, Virginia founded by Nicole and Jack Thompson. Their shared love for pickleball brings together a diverse community, offering a space where people of all ages and skill levels can enjoy the sport. Their business fosters an inclusive atmosphere, making pickleball accessible to everyone, from beginners to experienced players alike.
“There’s such a great energy in this place,” said Nicole. “Pickleball is a sport that anyone can pick up no matter your skill level.”
With programming that includes lessons, organized tournaments, leagues, and open play, Bangers & Dinks caters to a wide range of individuals, from the hyper competitive athletes, social young adults to those who in the latter stages of life are rediscovering the joy of staying active. The staff, including General Manager Bryce Baxter, ensures a supportive environment where players are matched with others of similar skill levels, making the game enjoyable for all.
“It’s quite a unique blend of people who walk through our doors,” said Baxter, who’s been with the business since April of 2024. “My whole goal is if you take the court, you feel like you have a chance to win the game.”
Bangers & Dinks also offers a beginner bootcamp, teaching the basics of pickleball while providing the necessary equipment. Many of the bootcamp participants eventually become members, joining round-robin tournaments and further contributing to the community. Families, teachers, first responders, and many other community members create a thriving network around the sport.
In addition to its role as a pickleball hub, Bangers & Dinks supports local businesses, featuring pickleball-themed jewelry from Chesterfield-based Hit Happy and also houses a physical therapist office for any aches and pains that come from court time or any other walk of life.
Located near Chesterfield Towne Center, the Thompsons are thrilled to operate in a space that holds personal significance for Nicole, a Monacan High School graduate.
“I love that we own a business right across the street from the mall where I used to hang out as a teen,” said Nicole. “The Chesterfield vibe is still awesome to this day even though so much has changed.”
What started as a simple idea born out of insomnia has transformed into a vibrant, welcoming place for both residents and visitors to enjoy pickleball and build lasting connections. To learn more about Bangers & Dinks, visit their website, Instagram or Facebook.
