Alma Bella Academy is more than just an art school. Students from the surrounding area can attend the microschool for after school enrichment programs, hybrid homeschool, and summer camp. It’s a place where passion meets technique, and community is at the forefront, fostering an environment where students of all ages can explore their creative potential, learn life-skills and build relationships.
In 2020 amongst the COVID-19 pandemic, the journey of Alma Bella began. At that time, Dr. Debi Graves, a dedicated public-school teacher with 25 years of experience, observed her middle school students facing unprecedented challenges academically, socially, and emotionally. Through countless conversations with her students, the idea of Alma Bella Academy began to grow and over the next few months, Dr. Graves became convinced that her students and community needed a safe and nurturing environment where creativity could thrive, academics could be reinforced, and friendships could grow. “Whatever the kids want is the direction of Alma Bella,” said Dr. Debi Graves.
Upon opening, Dr. Graves was committed to providing the Academy’s services to all members of her community, regardless of their financial circumstances so she initiated the creation of a non-profit foundation to further this mission: The Alma Bella Foundation.
Alma Bella isn’t just for students. With a variety of classes ranging from painting and drawing to sculpture and photography, there’s something for all ages! And that’s not all. Alma Bella is also open for team building activities, private paint-nights and so much more.
The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to see why Alma Bella Academy has become a beloved institution in Chesterfield.
